Create a Product

Short Description

Learn how to create a product in the BuildMyStore Seller Application, including Standard Products, Loose Products, product variants, subscription settings, taxation, images, and product visibility.

Overview

The Products section in the Seller Application allows you to add and manage products for your online store. You can create:

Standard Products

Products with multiple variants like size, color, etc.

Loose Products

Products sold by weight, volume, or custom measurements.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. From the Dashboard, click Catalog in the left sidebar.
  2. Under Catalog, select the Products tab.
  3. Click Add Product in the top-right corner of the Products page.
  4. Enter the required Basic Information:
    • Product Name
    • Brand Name
    • Category

Create a standard product with variants

  1. Click Add Variant.
  2. Enter the Variant Name. You can select a suggested variant name or enter your own.
  3. Enter one or more Variant Options. You can select suggested options or enter your own (e.g., Size: Small, Medium, Large).
  4. You can add a maximum of 3 variant types to a product, with multiple options under each variant.
  5. After saving the variants, the system automatically generates all variant combinations.
  6. Enter the required details for each variant (SKU, MRP, Selling Price, Shipping Weight).
  7. Upload images for individual variants using the variant image dropdown.
  8. To delete a variant, select the checkbox beside the variant and click Delete.

Add product description & images

Description

  1. Enter a detailed product description based on your business requirements.
  2. You can also use Generate with AI to automatically generate the product description.

Images

  1. Upload high-quality product images.
  2. You can upload up to 8 images for each product.

Product Settings

Product availability

The Active toggle controls whether the product is available in your store.

  • Enabled: The product is visible in the storefront and customers can purchase it.
  • Disabled: The product remains in the Products list with an Inactive status and is hidden from customers.

Subscription

  1. Enable Subscription if the product should be available as a subscription.
  2. The Returnable Item field appears with options like None or MilkBottle.
Note

Loose Products cannot be configured as Subscription Products. For subscription orders, please ensure that Next Day Delivery is enabled in the Local Delivery Settings.

Cost Price

  1. Enable Cost Price if you want to maintain the purchase cost of the product.
  2. When enabled, the Cost Price field is displayed for each variant, or in the Loose Product Details section.

Taxable Product

  1. Enable Taxable Product if tax should be applied during checkout.
  2. When enabled, applicable taxes are automatically calculated for customer orders.

Create a Loose Product

  1. Enable Loose Product for products sold by weight or quantity (e.g., Rice, Sugar, Fruits).
  2. When enabled, the Variants & Pricing section is replaced with Loose Product Details.
  3. Enter Quantity, MRP, Selling Price, and Base Price.
  4. Configure Quantity Constraints (Minimum Quantity, Maximum Quantity).
  5. Configure Preset Quantities (e.g., 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg) so customers can quickly select them while placing an order.

Finalize & Create

  1. Review all product details.
  2. Click Create Product.
  3. The product is added to your product catalog.

Cause
The product is marked as inactive.
Solution
Enable the Active toggle and update the product.

Variant names or options are incomplete.
Solution
Ensure each variant has a valid name and at least one option before saving.
Cause
The Loose Product option is not enabled.
Solution
Enable the Loose Product toggle to replace the Variants & Pricing section with Loose Product Details.
